Some People’s Kids….

I have had a horrible past couple days. The Ex MIL will be here tomorrow afternoon and my cat went into heat (yuuuuuuuuuck), my dog keeps digging in the garbage, my kid has a cold, and my husband lovingly put my giant thing of fabric softener on top of my dryer… which my cat apparently thought was sexy, rubbed on it, and then it dumped all over the floor… three days later I see a “ectoplasm” of blue oozing from under my dryer… That was a treat to clean up.

As for today, I have completed all but one assignment due for the next week, cleaned my house best as I could with my kiddo running around destroying it behind me, and just wanted to go get some soda and a candy bar when my husband got home, ya know. To get out of the house for a few minutes.

As I’m driving along listening to techno slowly regaining my sanity, I come across a large group of kids and 1 (supposed) adult. These kids were all on bikes, just riding down the middle of the street. There is a car coming from the opposite direction, and they still wont move. They see us, but slowly weeve in and out of the road, paddling as slowly as you can without tipping over their bike, by the time the woman and I could make out eachothers faces, we locked eyes and just shook our heads at eachother out of frustration.

My question is, wtf is wrong with parents now that these kids don’t know common curteousy… or even safety? You don’t ride your bike in the middle of the damn street, especially when a car is coming. It drives me nuts…

Here’s two more examples:

We have new neighbors across the street. Nice Army dude with 3 kids and his wife. The girls are 5 and 7, and I’m not sure how old the boy is… I’m guessing 6 or 8.
These girls come over to my yard constantly. They climb the plumeria tree, which is fine it’s out by the road, but then they come up to my porch when I’m in my living room, and just stare in my sliding glass door. Uh, Personal space please? And frigging CREEPY. I’m fine if they want to play with my kiddo, but they gotta go to the front door and ask, not come up on my porch and stare in my windows until I shoo them off. They did it again today after I already told them baby girl couldn’t come out and play since she had a cold (and it was rather chilly out), but their mommy caught them and ripped them a new one. I didn’t see them for the rest of the day.

Second example: There is this group of kids that run around the neighborhood, ranging from I’m guessing 5 or 6 to about 13. I was sitting on my porch reading my kindle (I really love my kindle!), and they pop around the corner to my back porch, I’m sitting right there. It’s invading my space, and they need to leave, this is my property, so I ask them to please back up from my porch, which they do and they apologize but this isn’t the first time I’ve had a run in with these kids… Hell there were kids stealing stuff off my porch, timing when me and my husband left (and yes I know this I’ve tested my theory). Oh and also, there is a kid probably about 10 who now has a bb gun he shoots at houses, and yes, he shot at my house with me outside on my porch. And the dad and his “Friend” were shooting it at cars! Not cool.
And to think, housing still wont let me put up a damn fence… grrrr

I just don’t understand. I mean I’m all for kids being outside to play, it’s healthy for them, and they need the fresh air, but when did parents stop teaching their kids about personal space, respecting elders, and of course safety? My daughter knows how far she can go when she is outside and sticks to it. She knows how to cross a street (and only with an adult). She knows that if a car is coming and she is riding her bike, to ride it into the grass or on the sidewalk, and she definitely knows about personal space and how to respect her elders. I would never allow my kid to just run wild through the neighborhood or shoot a frigging GUN of ANY sort in a residential area, There’s no way. Maybe I’m just parenting wrong and that’s what you are supposed to do?
Eh, I’ve always been a rebel, guess I’ll be a rebel in parenting styles as well…
